RØRING

Mason was born in Amsterdam as Iason Chronis, son of a Dutch actress and a Greek sculptor. At the age of 6, he really wanted to play violin and he kept on taking lessons in classic and jazz music ever since. With his grandmother´s turntables and an old tape deck he was eager to start mixing in his early teens, as he saw footage of turntablists and hiphop DJ´s in America. Although he was way too young to legally enter a bar, he started to DJ in local clubs around his hometown.

At the end of the 90s Mason got more and more DJ gigs and integrated his electric violin and effects into his DJ sets. Things became quite hectic, as he was often asked to play in countries abroad, while he had just started to study ´Music Composition and Performance´. He finished 4 years later, cum laude and received an award for from the Dutch Royal Family for his graduation.

These years he spend on composing and performing all kinds of music. But after he graduated Masons main focus was back on dance music. His first record ´Helikopter EP´ was released in 2004, a mixture of italo, breakbeat and electro.

As he kept on DJ-ing around, DJ Tiësto saw Mason playing in South America and asked him to play electric violin along during his Tiësto in Concerts. Mason joined him on parts of his world tour as a support DJ as well.

In the summer of 2005 his second release ´The Screetch´, a chunky breaks tune on the Dutch imprint Middle Of The Road Music, got picked up by quite a lot of dj´s, like Tiga, Sebastien Leger, and Roman Flugel.

Mason became resident DJ for the infamous Electronation parties and played in Holland in clubs like Paradiso, Melkweg, Paard, Panama and festivals like Dancevalley, Mysteryland, Sensation and Extrema Outdoor. Also abroad things got more and more serious with gigs throughout South America, USA, Asia and Europe.

But it wasn´t until his 3rd release ´Exceeder´ that things went really fast. As Great Stuff Recordings released Exceeder, together with the help of Ministry of Sound and Middle Of The Road, the track became a huge club hit and was supported by all kinds of DJ´s - from Fatboy Slim to Eric Prydz, and from Sharam Jey to Pete Tong who made the track Essential Tune at BBC Radio One.

After the summer of 2006, Mason is very busy in his new studio and got many remix requests from people like Luetzenkirchen, Groove Rebels, Patrick Alavi, Sharam Jey, Malente and for labels like Ministry of Sound, Great Stuff Recordings and CR2.

Also new releases are coming up like ´Bigboy Exercises´ on Middle Of The Road, ´The Benedict Files´ on Aleph Recordings and ´When Farmers Attack´ on Loulou Records. He has got serious problems sitting still. So in between he keeps on writing new tracks - partly for his debut album, scheduled for spring 2007. He also started to perform his funky electro and synthpop live on stage with his music partner Coen Berrier as ´Mason&The Maker´. Ministry of Sounds releases a mash up of Exceeder in January 2007 with vocals of Princess Superstar as Mason vs Princess Superstar "Perfect".
